Category G: Leadership Experiences
Leadership Experiences (Maximum of 35 hours over 5-year period)

(The rule requires these activities to be “leadership” experiences, meaning to be an active, contributing participant, not just a member.)
  1. Development of new or broader skills and sensitivities to the school, community or profession.
    MUST be verified by written statement of representative of agency or organization in which the activity occurred, with validation of the applicant’s role and the hours of participation.

    Examples: Faculty Representative
    Scout leader
    4-H leader
    Jury duty
    Leadership in community theatre
    PTSA board member
    Technology Committee
    Church board of directors
    District Staff Development Committee
    Interview Team

    Clock hours: One hour of participation = one clock hour

  2. Publication of professional articles in a professional journal in an appropriate field.

    MUST be verified by a copy of the article and a summary of the experience, including the number of hours and type of research used to develop new knowledge for use in the article.

    Example: An article written for the Mathematics Teacher

    Clock hours: One hour of participation = one clock hour

  3. Volunteer work in professional organizations related of the areas of licensure held.

    MUST be verified by written statement from an official representative of the professional organization, with validation of hours and type of active leadership.

    Examples: Leadership positions such as president, committee chair, or other officer in the Minnesota Reading Association, National Council of Teachers of English, etc.

    Clock hours: One hour of participation = one clock hour
