"School Board Nearing Decisions on a Possible Referendum and School Calendar."

Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Michael Munoz visited the KROC-AM studio Wednesday morning for his monthly appearance on Rochester Today with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell.

The superintendent provided an update on some upcoming decisions for the Rochester School Board. He is currently reviewing the public comments that were submitted through an online survey concerning the calendar for the 2015-2016 school year. The district solicited input about whether the spring break next year should be shortened so the school year could end earlier in the month of June. Munoz stressed that a decision has not been made, but says the majority of the comments backed keeping a one-week long spring break.

Munoz says the school board is also awaiting the results of a public opinion survey conducted by an outside firm to gauge the level of support for a possible operating levy referendum. He says that report is expected to be presented to the School Board in early March and should pave the way for the board to decide whether to pursue a referendum in November. If the board decides to proceed, another survey would likely be ordered to help the school board decide how much funding to request.
